Developing Intuition – Instinct is a broad cognitive term that refers to details, ideas, knowledge and understanding that come to us outside the reasonable and sensible channels of thinking. It might concern us as an image, spontaneous thought, sensation or a strong sense. Instinct is a reaction to all that is present, today, and there is a skill to developing intuition. When we share our intuition in the moment, new possibilities can emerge. If we rely entirely on our thinking, we lose out on vast sources of knowledge.
When we over-analyze or second-guess the messages that come through our body-emotional intelligence, we miss out. Worst case circumstance, our inkling is not worthwhile and we gain from that. Best case, we gain from the experience of synchronicity with our client and deepen our relationship with this larger field of communication that comes from beyond the conscious mind.
The appreciation of instinct in modern society is growing and has room to grow still, for it adds to nearly all of our choices every day. Coaching relationships offer both of us the opportunity to grow instinct, test it and discover ways to trust it.
The human spirit and the human condition enhance when people hear each other deeply.
Listening is fundamental to the training procedure. The 3 levels of listening are self-focused listening, client-focused listening and transformation-focused listening.
Leaps of insight, awareness or creativity are spontaneous. When a natural opening emerges, we can mine the vein of gold. To be in the natural flow, we acknowledge openings, release our program, follow our intuition and react in the minute.
A client states she is ill and exhausted of the same old very same old. It’s common with mindfulness beginners. Instead of attempting to find a solution the same old way, the coach hears that brand-new felt sense, disrupts and acknowledges, “What’s the easy escape of being ‘fed up’?”.
If we get a picture of the customer flying, instead of deliberating the benefits and drawbacks, we can react to that moment by stating, “I see you flying,” which may open the client to a whole brand-new way of seeing life. This is all part of building confidence motivation and developing intuition.
Natural openings are not thought out. We simply respond. After we learn coaching skills and procedures, we can eventually let go of rational practices and flow with our clients, fulfilling them with what is called for in the minute.
Being in the flow implies we pay attention to chances, which are typically spoken– a slip of the tongue, saying the very same thing two times, or speaking about other people as a means to explore the self. When the customer says, “A bird just pertained to my window,” we can see this as an interruption, or as a natural opening. “Speak with the bird …” can be far more empowering than asking, “Exactly what are you avoiding?”.
When a customer selects a piece of lint off her clothing, the Newcastle Life coach can explore the natural opening by connecting the action to exactly what she is stating. With a customer who is extremely aware and attuned to self discovery, the coach may just say, “You simply eliminated a piece of lint,” and leave space for her to check out or make her own meaning.
As coaches, we have hundreds of choices when it pertains to methods to choose the natural circulation. Connecting the natural opening to the customer’s agenda for the session, tying the micro-movement to values or vision, or making the connection to the client’s objectives supports the natural circulation of training.
Listening with the Flow
Self-focused listening includes taking notice of our thoughts, body, emotions and instinct. When we bring awareness to exactly what is happening within, in the moment, we recognize the choice to shift from response and judgment to the wisdom of the whole body-mind system. Spending a weekend at a wellness workshop or a mindfulness retreat can make a big impact with this. This increased awareness makes developing intuition more available.
In the middle of a session, if we observe tension or we start thinking about a dispute from yesterday, we can bring our attention into the tension and the body lets go. Our physical feelings and emotions can be a diversion or they can notify the training and developing intuition. It’s also tied to manifesting intuition. If we pick up that we are sidetracked by our inner experience, we can opt to return to be more fully present with the customer.
If we notice our thoughts are promoted by our customer’s experience, we can ask, “What does my inner conflict want?”
When we cultivate inner awareness and follow our instinct, the training is more in tune with what is occurring in the minute. We become more effective and design the practices we desire our customers to develop. Self-awareness nurtures our capability to listen deeply to another.
Self-focused listening varieties from paying attention to transient thoughts to deep awareness of exactly what is taking place in the minute. Awareness has the brilliant function of allowing option and is more in tune with the needs in the moment.
